Unfettering Dancing Bears

Monday, June 8, 2009

Wildlife's S.O.S operated Sloth Bear Rescue team's one more mission is accomplished as it freed three more dancing beers from the shackles of bear trade. Two of the bears, a male named Bilbo and a female who is called Reshma, were saved from the Kandars of Maharshtra while the third one called Abhimanyu was rescued from Bannerghata.

All the three have been brought to the main Agra rescue facility, after a tedious and tiring voyage that was much less a pain for them compared to the long struggle that they have seen. The bears have been freed from the ropes and the muzzles, but it will take time for them to heal the wounds of bondage.

The bears, Bilbo and Reshma, still look traumatize as they take their dancing positions as soon as somebody approaches them. It is believed that it will take time for the two, specially Reshma, to believe that they are free now.

The third bear Abhimanyu, as believed by the rescue team, is a philosophical bear who has not taken long to overcome his miseries to start his life afresh. There are no signs of nervousness or agitation observed from his behavior. He eats, plays and enjoys the company of keepers.
