Notorious Poacher Held At Madhya Pradesh

A good news for all you wildlife enthusiasts of India. Recently, Madhya Pradesh's Forest Department in collaboration with the Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) has arrested Durru Harprasad Pardhi , the notorious poacher on July 15, 2009 from Katni in Madhya Pradesh.

Durru Harprasad Pardhi alias Kanaklal, a baheliya (hunting tribe of Katni) was accused of killing eight lions in Gujrat. He was also charged for laying five steel traps in Umarzari area adjacent to Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary and two traps in Wadsa in Gadchiroli in Vidarbha region of Madhya Pradesh in the year May 2007. Durru and his gang members has placed all these traps. Police has recovered all those traps but they had managed to escape from the hands of law.

In the year 2007, this thirty-year old poacher was wanted by both Gujrat and Karnataka police in a case of poaching of eight lions and seizure of 65 animal skins. Durru was the main man behind the supply of skins of wild animals especially the carnivores.

Prabhakar Gajkaosh, another illegal trader of the skins of wild animals, when nabbed by the Karnataka police, revealed the name of Durru. Gajkosh who was held on the charge of having 65 skins of wild animals informed police that Durru has supplied these skins to him. These 65 skins comprises of one skin of Tiger, 21 of Leopards, and 43 of Otters.

Gujrat police has taken over the custody of Durru and produced him before the Palithana court. Even both Karnataka and Maharashtra police will also interrogate him on various issues.

The Central India Director of WPSI, Nitin Desai said that intelligence led enforcement is very essential in today's era to capture these high-tech poachers and illegal traders. He stressed that India have had enough of wildlife protection on ad hoc basis. He said that even Durru's father Harprasad was also sized by the police with three traps near Tatar area in the year 1998. He was arrested but bailed
